BMWK:
No CO2 tax on pellets
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) has clarified that no CO2 pricing of wood energy is planned.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs has made it clear that energy from wood will not be subject to a CO2 price. This announcement brings clarity to the discussion about the role of wood as a renewable energy source and ends the uncertainty in the debate about possible additional cost burdens.
The BMWK's decision confirms that wood energy will continue to be recognized as a renewable energy source and will therefore not be subject to a CO2 price. This clarification is of particular importance for the energy transition in Germany, as wood plays an important role in the field of renewable energies and heat generation.
Gerolf Bücheler, Managing Director of the German Wood Energy Association, welcomes the BMWK's clarification: "The BMWK's clear statement that no CO2 price is planned for wood finally puts an end to a ghost debate. The BMWK is providing clarity for industry and consumers: energy from wood is and will remain renewable. Wood will also be able to make its contribution to the energy and heating transition in the future without a CO2 price."
